At the Northwest District Teacher’s Conference held in Seaside, OR from Oct. 30 – Nov. 1, 2019, two Forest Hills staff members received district awards. Mrs. Kim Brennan, fifth grade teacher, received the Distinguished Elementary School Teacher Award, and Mr. Mike Schiemann, Principal, received the Distinguished Administrator Award.
Mrs. Kim Brennan is in her seventh year teaching at Forest Hills. During that time, she has taught Kindergarten, a 3rd-5th grade Multiage class, and now teaches a straight 5th grade class. In support of her nomination, students were asked to comment about Mrs. Brennan. They said the following:
- “She never gives up on you or allows you to give up on yourself.”
- When you struggle with something, she works alongside of you and finds ways to help you understand.”
- She shows God’s love to everyone, being patient, kind, and loving.”
- She inspired creativity in an area I didn’t like (writing) and I’m still proud of the stories I was able to write.”
Mrs. Brennan more than fulfilled all of the award criteria, and was selected among a vast pool of eligible candidates to receive this honor.
Mr. Mike Schiemann is in his sixth year as Principal at Forest Hills. This is the second school he has served as Principal and is excited to see the great things taking place at the school. Since he arrived, the school has developed new curriculum that is preparing students for life beyond Forest Hills. Schiemann fulfilled various requirements, including developing staff and student morale, relating to all segments of the school, visionary leadership, involving families and the community with the mission of the school, and supporting students and their families as they journey through the schooling years together.
Forest Hills is a member of the Northwest District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, which encompasses all Lutheran Christian schools in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. We thank God for His blessings given to students and families through Forest Hills!
