Recreational & Competitive Sports

As a student, your child will have access to a diverse range of recreational and competitive sports.  Many of Forest Hills’ middle school teams will also participate in the annual Lutheran Elementary School Tournament (LEST).

Forest Hills is a member of the Metro Christian Schools League, competing against schools in the western division during the regular season. Schools who qualify will have the opportunity in the post season to play in the league championship series.

Sports Fee

This fee helps cover the cost of equipment, field maintenance, and referee expenses. Please note that uniform costs are not included in the sports fee. Students who wish to participate in an any athletics program must complete the FHLCS Sport Permission Form.

Basketball

Basketball is offered at three levels: 3rd–4th grade, 5th–6th grade, and 7th–8th grade. The 5th and 6th grade boys’ and girls’ seasons take place in November and December, followed by the 7th and 8th grade season. In addition to their regular season schedule, the 7th–8th grade team competes for both the LEST Championship and the Metro Christian Schools League Championship.

For 3rd and 4th graders, basketball is offered in the spring and features a shorter season focused on skill development through practices and games. The number of teams formed each year depends on student interest and registration numbers.

Cheer & Dance

The cheer season begins each school year in October and is open to 5th through 8th grade. Tryouts are held over a two-day period, with team selections announced on the second day. In addition to supporting home sporting events and school assemblies, the cheer team also competes in the LEST.
Each year, Forest Hills forms a competitive dance team to prepare for LEST. The team is open to students in 5th through 8th grade. Tryouts and a parent informational meeting are typically held in October.

Volleyball

Girls in 5th-8th grade have the opportunity to play volleyball in the fall season. The program includes two teams:

5th and 6th Grade Team: Competes in scrimmages against other local Christian schools, focusing on skill development and teamwork.

7th and 8th Grade Team: Plays a competitive schedule as part of the Metro Christian League.

The season concludes with a playoff tournament for teams that qualify.

Track & Field

Track and field is open to boys and girls in grades 6th–8th. The team competes in four to five regular-season meets each year, with the final meet serving as a district qualifier. Students who qualify advance to compete against the top track athletes in the Metro Christian League.

Soccer

Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School fields two co-ed soccer teams each fall. The 3rd–5th grade team blends students across those grade levels and participates in local scrimmages throughout the season. The 6th–8th grade team competes in the Metro Christian League Division 2 and concludes its season with a championship playoff tournament for qualifying teams.

Swim

For LEST, Forest Hills forms a swim team open to students in grades 5th through 8th. Swimmers may compete in up to three individual events if not participating in relays, or in a maximum of two individual events and two relays. Team points and ribbons are awarded to the top six finishers in each event, and overall team awards are presented to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Events include Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly.

Running Club

Track isn’t just for middle schoolers—there’s also a Running Club for students in grades K–5! During the fall and spring seasons, members track the laps they complete and earn rewards as they reach milestone goals. Students who run 500 laps have their names added to a group commemorative plaque in the gym. Those who reach 1,000 laps earn recognition on an individual plaque displayed in the gym.
